Do You Really Know God?

Do you really know God? Most people think they do, but their actions prove they are totally lacking in their understanding of who God is. It is correctly understood by the majority that God is love (1 John 4:8); holy (1 Peter 1:15-16); just (Deuteronomy 32:4; Isaiah 30:18); righteous (Psalm 11:7; 119:137); merciful (Deuteronomy 4:31; Psalm 103:8); and gracious (Jonah 4:2). However, there are other aspects of God that men fail or refuse to believe.

The Pre-millennialist believes in a god who is weak and limited in His knowledge of things. Yet Scripture clearly tells us that God knows everything before it happens (Ephesians 1:4; Psalm 147:5; Isaiah 46:10; et al). He established the church as part of His salvation plan and knew the Jews would reject the Christ. Nothing was a surprise to Almighty God. The Calvinist follows a god who contradicts Himself by allowing human DNA to be infused with total depravity yet, condemning those who supposedly have no choice in the matter to the fires of hell because He didn’t pre-elect them to salvation. Yet Scripture again clearly proves this is not the God we are to serve, for God has said that He does not want anyone to perish (2 Peter 3:9) but desires ALL men to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4). Who do we believe? Men or God (Acts 5:29)?

The Sabbatarian follows a god who can’t make up his mind as to which law we are to follow. They quickly turn to passages that point out the need to keep the Sabbath which WAS a requirement for the Jew under Moses’ law, yet they believe they can keep both the Old Law and the New at the same time. God has informed the honest Bible student that the Old Law would be replaced with a new one (Jeremiah 31:31-34; Hebrews 8:6-13). Paul said the Old Law fulfilled its purpose in leading us to Christ (Galatians 3:23-25), and that we cannot live under two laws at the same time (Romans 7:1-6). Mormons believe in a god who is both human and spirit at the same time, and who has a wife who gave birth to Jesus and Satan.

Jehovah’s Witnesses believe ‘the Christ’ is Jesus plus the 144,000 elite Watch Towerites, and that Jesus is not God, but ‘a’ cloned god, while Light of the Worldites hold to the false idea that Apostles still exist and that Jesus is not the creator of the world (Hebrews 1:1-3). Denominationalists all believe in a god who allows man to choose the church of their choice and to worship anyway they please. But that is another of a long line of lies from the devil. Jesus established only one church (Matthew 16:18) and God is looking for those who will worship Him in spirit AND in truth (John 4:24). God said we are not to preach another gospel, let alone follow another gospel (Galatians 1:6-9; 1 Timothy 1:3; 2 Timothy 4:3-4).

Knowing God is not as simple as believing there is a God. Only the Bible (God’s inspired word) helps us to know who He is, and what He expects of each one of us.
